What the new Chinese export regulations and the current rare earth market situation mean for your magnet orders

Dear Customers,

Since April 4, 2025, new export restrictions have been in force in China for seven metals classified as rare earth elements. NdFeB magnets with increased temperature resistance are particularly affected – products that are essential for many industrial applications.

China has defined which magnet types may be exported freely and which require a special export license. As a result, almost all magnets – regardless of their exact composition – are currently subject to significantly increased customs inspections.

In practice, this leads to considerable export delays. Entire containers may be held back, even if only part of the shipment contains magnets. In addition, complex and costly laboratory tests are required to verify the magnet composition. Testing laboratories are currently operating at full capacity, further extending lead times.

At the same time, the market situation for neodymium has intensified significantly. Strongly rising raw material prices and high uncertainty on the supplier side mean that reliable quotations cannot currently be provided for certain products.

What does this mean for you?

  • Rising purchase prices: Increased raw material and processing costs directly affect our purchasing prices.

  • Limited reorder availability: Certain magnets are currently available only from stock. Products that need to be specially ordered are presently unavailable or only available to a very limited extent.

  • Limited custom solutions: Individual or project-specific solutions are currently only possible to a limited degree.

These factors may also have an impact on our selling prices.

We appreciate your understanding and will keep you informed as soon as the situation stabilizes.
