Export restrictions China
What the New Chinese Export Regulations on Rare Earths Mean for Your Magnet Orders – and Important Information on Delivery Times & Pricing from August 2025
Dear Customers,
Since April 4, 2025, new export restrictions have been in place in China for seven metals classified as rare earth elements. NdFeB magnets with increased temperature resistance are particularly affected – precisely those that are essential for many applications.
China has now defined which types of magnets can be freely exported and which require a special export license. As a result, Chinese customs are now inspecting all magnets more thoroughly – regardless of their exact composition.
In practice, this means that entire containers may face significant delays due to stricter customs inspections – even if only part of the cargo contains magnets.
For this reason, many shipping companies are now refusing to transport magnets by rail or sea, as the entire shipment could be delayed, affecting other goods in the container as well.
Additionally, costly laboratory tests are required to verify the exact composition of the magnets – and these are currently subject to long waiting times due to overwhelmed testing facilities.
What does this mean for you?
- Purchase prices are rising: The production costs for magnets have increased significantly, which affects our purchase prices.
- Only stock items for certain magnets: Magnets with specific properties, such as higher temperature resistance, are currently only available from stock. Reordering is not possible at this time.
- Custom designs only available to a limited extent: We are currently able to offer custom-made magnets only in exceptional cases, as our main focus is on maintaining regular deliveries.
- Express shipping is the only option: At present, all magnet shipments are arriving exclusively via expensive express shipping.
All of these factors are unfortunately affecting our sales prices. Therefore, from August 2025, we will need to adjust the prices of some of our products.
We understand this is not welcome news and kindly ask for your understanding. Please rest assured that we are doing everything we can to maintain a reliable supply during this exceptional situation. If you have any questions or need support with your planning, we are of course happy to assist you.
Kind regards
Your neomagnete Team
